Tianhu Sun, Assistant Professor Google Scholar
Dr. Sun got his Ph.D from Nanjing University, China and then received postdoctoral training at Cornell University since 2016. During the free time, Dr. Sun likes to spend most time with family as a father of two kids. Other hobbies include film photography, camping, and cooking.
Bikram Giri, Ph.D. candidate Google Scholar
I am from Nepal and completed my M.S. in Biology at ETSU, where I explored mechanisms of stress response in plants. Currently, I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Dr. Sun’s lab, focusing on understanding post-translational modifications using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. My research aims to create therapeutic proteins for cancer treatment and enhance crop nutrition. Outside of research, I enjoy playing cricket, traveling, and connecting with nature.
Mercy Mormor, graduate student
My research focuses on investigating the multiple enzyme complex in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. The enzyme complex plays a crucial role in the carotenoid production pathway, influencing the efficiency and regulation of the process. Understanding this complex can aid in metabolic engineering efforts to combat Vitamin A deficiency, ultimately enhancing nutritionally enhanced foods and improve yield.
Fayrouz Adel Nossir, graduate student
I am an Egyptian master student at ETSU, US with a bachelor degree in Biotechnology Joint program from MSA University, Egypt and Greenwich University, UK. I have an endless passion to plant science, molecular genetics, and research troubleshooting! Discipline and commitment are my life motto for success. Besides, I love swimming, travelling, and desserts! I appreciate world’s diversity and teamwork that are beautifully reflected in Dr. Sun’s research team.
Bushrana Siddique, graduate student
As a master's student specializing in plant science, I focus on unraveling the intricate mechanisms of enzyme complexes in chromoplasts during fruit ripening. My research explores the structural and functional connections of carotenoid biosynthetic enzymes in tomato fruits, using advanced genetic and biochemical techniques.
Zoe McCready Martin, undergraduate student
I am an undergraduate student at East Tennessee State University majoring in Biological Sciences with a Biomedical Concentration and double minoring in Synthetic Biology and Psychology. I am projected to graduate in Fall 2026. My research interests lay in synthetic biology approaches to construct and protein engineering for biomedical applications and treatments. I am currently working with therapeutic protein expression in tobacco plants. In my free time, I enjoy writing, brewing coffee, classical ballet, and strategy games.
